Welcome to Refinery Dance, where passion meets precision and artistry comes alive. Founded by Gemma Jordan with a vision to create a nurturing space for Bachata dancers of all levels, we've built a community that celebrates the transformative power of movement and connection.
Our experienced instructors bring years of professional training, competitive and performance experience — dedicated to helping every student discover their unique voice through dance. We're committed to teaching the most up-to-date techniques by continuing our own learning.
Why we're different
Gemma has completed two International Bachata Instructor Certifications and is the only Bachata dancer in Perth to have won both National and International titles — including the 2026 Bachatanama Solo Battles in Sydney, the ConRi Sensual Aura International Pro (India '25), Level Up National ('24), and a Top 10 finish in Oceania's Bachata World Cup Qualifiers ('25). That record makes Refinery Perth's most awarded Bachata school in both 2025 and 2026.

Built for adult beginners
Our Beginners classes are designed with adult beginners in mind. Maybe you danced years ago, or maybe it's your very first time — but regardless, we know you've got experience in plenty of other areas of life. We teach in a way that makes every step approachable and understandable, and we're not afraid of a weird analogy or an unusual drill if it helps you learn. The alternative — assuming you can't do something — isn't an option for us. You just need to be taught how. That's what we're for.
