Everything you need to know before your first class. Still unsure? Reach out any time.
Do I need a partner to join a Bachata class?
No. You never need a partner at Refinery Dance. We rotate partners in class so you get to dance with everyone. It's one of the best ways to improve quickly and meet the community.
Do I need any dance experience to start?
None at all. Our Beginners class is built for adults with zero dance experience, as well as dancers of other styles who are new to bachata. We teach you the technique to lead and follow from scratch, in a way that's genuinely approachable for adult beginners.
I danced years ago but I'm rusty — where do I fit?
You'll fit right in. Our Beginners classes are designed with adult beginners in mind, whether it's your first time or you're returning after years away. We teach every step in an approachable, understandable way, so you just need to be taught how.
Where are Refinery Dance's classes held?
At Vault Creative Studios, 15 Gordon Street, West Perth WA, in the heart of West Perth, easy to reach from Perth CBD and surrounding suburbs.
What is Bachata?
Bachata is a partner dance from the Dominican Republic, originating in the 1960s. As a social dance it's open to complete beginners. We teach both its traditional Dominican roots and modern sensual technique.
Which class level should I start with?
If you're new to bachata, start with Beginners. From there you can move into Beginners 2, then Bachata Sensual Foundations. Our Traditional (Dominican) Bachata Solo Lab is open to any level and needs no partner.
How do I book a class?
All bookings are handled through our members portal at portal.refinerydance.com.au, where you can see class times, choose a membership or casual class, secure your spot and add it to your calendar.
Do you offer private lessons or teach at events?
