Do I need a partner or any experience?
No, and no. Our Beginners classes assume zero dance experience, and you never need to bring a partner — we rotate everyone through the class so you dance with the whole room. That rotation is also the fastest way to improve and the easiest way to meet people. If it's your very first adult dance class, you'll be in exactly the right place.
What is Bachata, and how does it fit into Latin dancing?
Bachata is a partner dance from the Dominican Republic. Within the world of Latin dancing — salsa, bachata and more — it's widely considered the most beginner-friendly to start with, because the basic timing is approachable and the connection is forgiving. Our instructors come from broader Latin and salsa backgrounds, so you're learning bachata within the full context of social Latin dance, not in isolation.
It's about social dancing, not memorising routines
Our emphasis is on making you a genuine social dancer — someone who can dance with anyone, at any level, because you share the same common language. That's why we teach both leading and following properly: in bachata, both people have a responsibility to keep each other safe and to make the dance fun. How to start in Perth
Begin with our Beginners class in West Perth. From there you can move into Beginners 2, then Bachata Sensual Foundations, at your own pace. When you're ready to put it into practice socially, come to Rise by Refinery, our own bachata social that runs most months.
